Something special going on in the arts district

January 26, 2017

If you've ever visited the RiNo Art District in downtown Denver, you know that there is something special going on over there. The graffiti that lines the walls and alleyways is visually superb; massive colorful murals painstakingly applied to brick and stone catch the eye at every turn. It made for the perfect backdrop to shoot some urban fashion looks with Stevie. With all the colors and texture, there is something special for every outfit that makes for one memorable experience.

After a quick drive through downtown, we found parking within walking distance of several alleyways and gorgeous murals of every color and theme you can imagine. The goal was a simple one; to create either a match or striking contrast of color with the graffiti art and the wardrobe selections. With wardrobe looking awesome, surrounded by colorful wall art, finding the right contrast would create an image so on-point you can't look away!

The first look we started with was a dark green jacket paired with army green jeans. After walking only a few feet we found a neon green mural down the closest alleyway. The neon of the walls paired with the deep greens of the jeans and jacket really paired great together (the glasses really bring this one all together!). Next we moved onto a light grey hoodie-dress, a sheer white top, with matching mini-backpack. We found a bright and vivid mural featuring red and purple roses which really helped the lighter outfit pop out (that backpack is dope, right and those glasses haha!).

Next up was a paint-speckled white hoodie with white jeans. The paint flecks on the hoodie were cute but subtle, I knew with a white top white jeans outfit, a bright and colorful background would be just what we needed. Down an alleyway we found a bright blue over dark crimson wall and I was sold. Stevie wanted to make sure we nailed a shot showing off the Timberland shoes (big TL's haha) and this might be my favorite shot from the day, once again it's the glasses that sell it for me! Last up was a red and white dress with open faced light black coat. For this last shot, I wanted something editorial, something “out and about”. With the setting sun peeking through the buildings, it all comes together.

If you've never had the chance to walk around RiNo before, I would add it to the to-do list straight away. Wait for a warm afternoon and just take a walk around and check out the scenery people have painted. It's nothing short of impressive. I'd love to go back again and check out different walls and alleys, see what I can find. If you like the wardrobe and styling here, check out MAM Couture Boutique in Denver, bringing in a blending of high-fashion and urban looks you won't find anywhere else!
